During President Cyril Ramaphosa’s address to the nation on Sunday night he declared a National Disaster and announced various measures to address the threat of the coronavirus in South Africa.


As a group, we have taken pro-active measures and have a business continuity plan in place should there be a need for individuals to work from home.


It is difficult to predict the impact on people and business, we acknowledge it’s not business as normal and measures need to be put in place that will increase the pressures on businesses activities, but we hope the actions taken now will minimise long term disruption 


We will continue to coordinate all our efforts, adhere to best practice and follow the recommendations of the World Health Organisation and local authorities, our priority remains to protect our staff and operate effectively so we continue to serve our clients and to minimise the damage to our economy 


Our steering committee will meet regularly as the situation unfolds and ensure the business responds appropriately to the challenges we will face.


As a group, we have recently introduced various safety measures recommended by the WHO at our offices/Cargo Freight Stations ( CFS ) and are looking at additional measures to curb the spread of the virus. 


We have been approached by numerous clients with regards to business continuity, while the situation continues to evolve, we want to reiterate the key actions we are taking to ensure safety and business continuity;



We have restricted all international business travel. Employees who have travelled to any international destination, or who have been in contact with a person who has or is diagnosed with Covid-19, must self-isolate for 14 days. At this stage, we are allowing local travel that is business critical. 


Personal and Workplace hygiene

Information booklets have been issued to all our teams with regards to Covid-19 and the spread of the virus. Recommendations of the World Health Organisation and local authorities have been implemented and we will continue to strengthen our controls


Business Continuity 

Our key objective is to ensure that our business provides continuity to our clients even when our teams are forced to work remotely away from the office. As mentioned, our operating systems allow our office staff to have remote access for day to day. In addition, we are looking at measures to have staff at the CFS’s should the virus have significant impact on our labour force.


Social Distancing 

To minimise the risk and curb the spread of the disease through the workplace, social distancing policies have been put in place. Our steering committee have identified the high risk of transmission at customer service desks, based on the recommendations we will start implementing social distancing and to ready ourselves for remote working by imposing the following procedures:

•          ICS CFS's – all collections and deliveries will require our customers to use our online ecommerce tools to process collections and deliveries. As this functionality is already available online, we will start closing our customer service desks over the next week(s) as a preventative measure and to test our readiness, so please take the appropriate measures to learn how to use these online tools

•          Thrutainers – we have unique online tools to assist price, book cargo, track your shipments and print all documentation, so please take the appropriate measures to learn how to use these online tools

We have placed more human resource in our customer service department to assist our clients register and to help with training on our unique online tools 

We will continuously evaluate and improve our processes and procedures, clients will be kept informed of any new developments, alternatively feel free to contact one of our sales representatives if you have any questions 


We will continue to take steps to protect our teams and communicate accordingly with all parties. We call on all employees, clients, service providers and the wider community to come together and adopt a spirit of social responsibility to support the national effort and minimise the impact of this virus within our country, to take appropriate steps to protect your families and the communities in which we live and operate.
